Honoree Dennis Crawley, 52, is married with two children. Dennis is very well-known, serving as the head baseball coach for Depew High School. On July 30th, Dennis was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS, and Lou Gehrig’s disease.
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the brain and spinal cord nerve cells that control your muscles. As your muscles get weaker, it gets more challenging to walk, talk, eat and breathe. No one knows the cause of ALS, but studies have found it can run in families.
Dennis is the 27th family member in 3 generations to have suffered from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. This strain that has afflicted their family is an aggressive strain known as SOD1-A4V. The family of Dennis Crawley started this fundraising effort so that Dennis, his wife Jennifer of 24 years, and children Justin and Ashley are able to obtain the medical care he will need to fight this battle.
